About Me- Darren Hudson-Wood
About Me?- I am 29 years of age and live in a small village just outside Ipswich, Suffolk called Kesgrave-its a dainty old village but a far fetch from Newmarket.
I got into horse racing at a very young age, my father owned ponies which I used to ride out most weekends and my step father was manager of Corals In Ipswich so horses and then betting came natural to me really.
My early memories of racing were watching the morning line every Saturday morning in the Corals shop I must have been 6 years old and used to help put up the racecards on the wall so was reading the racing post at 6 also!
My working life in the industry has been in Newmarket where I studied at the National Stud and then went on to work at Cheveley Park Stud and then Tattersalls, so generally the breeding/pedigree side would be my strongest area.
All the above has meant I have had the privilege to work with and meet many great race horses and one of which was Red Rum:- picture of me aged 7 with him (right hand side)
I am a flat man 100% but he is not the only famous Grand National winner ive had the honour to meet as Party Politics was actually based at Cheveley Park Stud so met him one morning-he was not a sociable horse like Red Rum though.
Im now back home as stated above in Kesgrave and run Hudsonshorses, but I still stay in touch hands on in the racing world and regulary visit the Newmarket gallops, as well as writing on a regular basis for many horse racing papers/magazines such as Eclipse Magazine,
I am also a registered race horse owner (colours right) and these will be seen on the race track with various different horses during 2011 including by The Tatling.
In my younger years I also played Chess for both county and country which resulted in being Suffolk under 15 and u16 Suffolk champion, as well as winning numerous county and national awards/titles.
And thats its really, but if you have any questions either about me or horse racing in general please feel free to email me.
