Rachel Alexandra 5/9/2009

Rachel Alexandra makes it 8/8 this year in the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes but will now be on a 6 month rest and won't be taking part in this years Breeders Cup.

Fallon Rides Treble 7/9/2009

Kieren Fallon has cemented his comeback with a 254-1 Folkestone treble all for trainer Luca Cumani.

His wins came aboard:-

2.50 Diam Queen 9/1

3.20 Sham Sheer 15/2

4.20 Ordoney 2/1

Fallon was only narrowly denied a magical four timer with Magical Speedfit beaten just a head in the sprint at 3.50.

Yeats to bow out on Saturday? 8/9/2009

The 4 time Ascot Gold Cup winner Yeats could run his last race run this Saturday in the Irish Field St Ledger.

Yeats won the race in 2007 after an epic battle with former English St Ledger winner and stable mate Scorpion.

But is Saturday his swansong?

Aidan O'brien has gone on record to say this will be his last race in Ireland but I have my reservations whether we will see him in France (Cadran) as he has never performed in that race to date and connections would be fooly to risk him.

What ever happens on Saturday afternoon Yeats has confirmed himself a true great a termanology given to easily these days, and he's bound to make a successful stallion-he has the looks, stamina and longegevity to make a great Jumps sire.

Super Fantasia 10/9/2009

Crack 3 year filly Fantasia got back to winning ways with a authorative display in the Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster this afternoon.

Settled in behind the pace she travelled sweetly and when asked for an effort by Fallon fairly scooted home to win by 2l.

A step back up to group 1 company is now on the cards with a tilt at the Chariot Stakes(Newmarket) being touted.

Master of the Leger 12/9/2009

Mastery and Ted Durcan won the 2009 renewal of the Doncaster St Leger, beating his much more fancied stablemate and race favourite Kite Wood.

The winner relished the conditions and was already a proven stayer coming into the race and just got up to make it a famous 1-2 for the Godolphin team.

Dissapointment of the race was Father Time who travelled well, came to challenge 2 out but who's effort petered out tamely, whilst Mourayan never got the run of the race and was hampered when challenging for minor honours.

Kosei Miura 13/9/2009

19 year old Japanese riding sensation Kosei Miura made the perfect start to his 3 week stint in England by winning aboard Royal Diamond trainer by Sir Mark Prescott, who is Kosei mentor whilst in this country.

At just 19 Kosei Miura is already a national treasure in Japan having broken the great Yutaka Take's record of most wins as a rookie in his first season riding.

Royal Diamond at Ffos Las was Miura's first ride in Britain and having travelled all the way from Newmarket was duly obliged with an easy winner.

Youmzain 16/9/2009

Kieren Fallon has been confirmed as Youmzain's big race pilot in the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe on October 4th.

Youmzain has filled the runners up position in the last 2 years and Trainer Mick Channon is hopeful of going one better, reportingly stating that he has never had the horse in such rude health.

Youmzain is currently 25/1 with bet365 for the Arc.

Queen Elizabeth II Stakes 21/9/2009

Its the QEII on Saturday and 11 horses are still in after todays 5 day forfeit stage.

Last years race was a epic with future breeders cup winner Ravens Pass coming out on top and this years renewal is looking just as good with a potential Delegator/Rip Van Winkle clash.

The current entries and odds (bet365) are:-

Rip Van Winkle 11/10

Delegator 9/4

Aqlaam 7/2

Mastercraftsman 7/1

Zacinto 10/1

Ghanaati 14/1

Famous Name 14/1

Virtual 20/1

Poet 33/1

Windsor Palace 200/1

Set Sail 200/1

Fallon, Channon And Darren(Hudson-Wood) 1/10/2009

Both Trainer, Jockey and myself have come out and stated what a excellent chance Youmzain has in this years Arc.

Mick Channon this week has declared that he has never had the horse in such form and Fallon yesterday stated Youmzain would at least be in the first 3.

I have been backing Youmzain at big odds for this race all year and in my opinion is the E/W bet of the race, Sea the Stars is a brilliant horse but im not sure the Arc will suit-in his last two runs it has taken a while to actually go past the lead horse and if he takes time to find that acceleration on Sunday they could be gone, so for me im hoping Youmzain can finally get that elusive big stage win he so deserves.

Sea The Stars And Youmzain 4/10/2009

Sea the Stars was a most impressive winner of the 2009 renewal of the Priz de l'Arc de Triomphe and duly cemented his place in the history books, the performance was even more impressive as the horse refused the settle early on.

But a big well done to the horse from all here and I hope he doesn't go to the breeders cup-look what happened to Dylan Thomas, think its a bridge to far.

And now on to my old chum Youmzain, what can you say-what a superb racehorse he is, to finish 2nd 3 times in a row is an unlucky feat but also a fantastic one when you think he has given lumps of weight away to his 3 conquerers, had it been off level weights he would be a 3 time winner of the Arc.

I hear he may well be back next year and it would be fooly to write him off.

Arc race replay is available on the Race Previews  page.

Gorgous George's Only Offspring 7/10/2009

Julie Wood (Solent, Special Reserve etc:) has purchased the only horse ever sired by the late Washington at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale at Newmarket.

George Washington's onlyoffspring, a filly (picture above) carrying her father's trademark white markings across her nose, was bought for 320,000 guineas.

She will go into training with Wood's long term trainer Richard Hannon.

Doyle said: "She's a lovely filly, gorgeous and lovely looking.

"I'm sure the vendor doesn't want to hear this, but I thought she'd make a little bit more.

"She's the sort of filly we like - she's got a lot of substance to her - and she'll go into training with Richard Hannon.

"George Washington was a freak and I hope she can be a freak like him.

"She'll go straight to Richard Hannon's yard now and she'll be in very good hands.

"She seems very laid-back and is going to a good environment and a very lucky owner."

Wood said: "The most I've ever spent on a horse was about 130,000 guineas and I expected her to go for more.

"She's a very nice filly. She's a one-off - there's no other horse like her - and I was going to be with her all of the way.

Harchibald 15/10/2009

Super Harchibald made is debut over fences this afternoon at Punchestown and ran as well as could be expected.

The winner Sizing Europe rated inferior to Harchibald over hurdles was foot perfect at every fence and bounded away to win.

On paper Harchibald was set a stiff task on his first run over fences being that Sizing Europe had already run and won his only chase start, was over 2m 2f and we all know he's best at 2m and isn't getting any younger at 10. I would of thought Nicanor would have been a more logical selection for this race.

Anyway be interesting to see what connections do with Harchi-he is still top class over hurdles and Kempton on Boxing day still has to be an option.

Sizing Europe however is due to be coming over here for Cheltenhams Paddy Power meeting.

Mick Kinane Retires 8/12/2009

Mick Kinane has been described as 'the complete professional in every way' by trainer John Oxx.

Kinane, who announced his retirement from the saddle today, was snapped up by the Currabeg handler when his association with the Ballydoyle team ended in late 2003.

A few years later, Sea The Stars was to provide them with their most dazzling moments.

'Michael Kinane was just the complete professional in every way,' said Oxx.

'Not only was he a top jockey with great skill and determination, but he always conducted himself perfectly. He had a great work ethic and he never let anybody down.'

Oxx naturally pointed to the six-time Group One winner as their high-point.

'

We had Azamour a few years ago who won a lot of good races, but Sea The Stars has been such a great landmark horse and it has been wonderful to have Michael there to ride him,' the trainer told Sky Sports News.

'The Arc is the one everyone will remember. There was so much at stake, no one wanted to see the horse fall at the last and get beaten, everyone wanted to see him finish up with a win and he was just so confident on the day.

'The horse was in a difficult position, the race was messy and didn't go according to plan but he just kept his nerve and guided him through the gaps and won easily. I suppose that is the day he will always be remembered for.

Hudsonshorses would like to wish Mick a very happy retirement though I suspect he will enter ther training ranks at some point soon.

Cesare 14/12/2009

Mr Fanshawe has come out today and stated Cesare will continue his career over hurdles, I am not at all surprised you cannot really judge any horse on one performance alone and it was a creditable debut run in my opinion.

Will he stay 2 miles? well its anybodys guess at present but on breeding alone he should do and given better ground in the spring he should be fine and Aintree would be the place for him.

I will post more news on his next run shortly though suspect it will be after the new year.

Kauto Star 26/12/2009

Kauto Star has became the first horse to claim a record four consecutive victories in the King George VI Chase.

Sent off the 8-13 favourite he thrilled the huge Kempton crowd and was never challenged once he took the lead on the home turn, winning by a distance

Ruby Walsh safely guided the dual Cheltenham Gold Cup hero over the last three fences for a comfortable win my fancy without Kauto Star-Racing Demon again ran as if something was amiss.

Big Bucks 29/12/2009

Big Bucks has won the re-scheduled Long Walk Hurdle beating my strong e/w fancy Karabak who I feel was ridden to get the trip and now connections are aware he stays could be a huge threat come March.

Jumps Racing Returns 16/1/2010

Saturday 16th January 2010 marked the return of National Hunt Racing for the first time in 13 days.

With 2 meetings from Kempton and Huntingdon there were a few notable performances, of which the one for me had to be Tazbar.

I backed him in the Feltham where he ran a cracker and he might just be a dark horse for Cheltenham.

Celestial Gold 17/1/2010

Hudsonshorses would just like to pay tribute to Celestial Gold who sadly had to be put down at the age of just 12.

A lovely looking individual who famously won the Paddy Power and Hennessy in the same season (I was on for both, 16/1 paddy power).

He was plagued with injury throughout his career and just a shame he could not enjoy a longer retirement.

Old Warrior War Of Attrition 21/1/2010

The Grand National is on the cards now for the the former gold cup winner after an emotional win today in Ireland, sent to the front early the old warrior run the hearts out of his opponents to win the grade 2 hurdle under new pilot Slippers Madden.

Bookmakers have quoted him around 20/1 for the national which isn't a bad e/w bet as has always jumped well and the trip should be no issue.

Denman Unseats the Champion Jockey 13/2/2010

I could not believe some of the comments on forums after the Denman incident last Saturday.

80% of the comments were slaying the champion jockey and to my eyes he did nothing wrong what so ever.

On the Racing Post website all the comments were saying how to ride this horse and you need to sit still an not ask the horse for a stride etc:-what a load of rubbish 3/4 of these people would have never even sat on a horse let alone be the undisputed best National Hunt jockey of all time.

Anyway I think Kauto Star will win the Gold Cup and did so before this race but still hope Denman puts up a good performance even if its just to silence the idiots on these forums.

Master Minded and Voy Por Ustedes 13/2/2010

Master Minded came back to his best on Saturday to win the Game Spirit chase and bar the incident at the last looks set to go off a warm order for the Queen Mother Champion chase at the festival.

I will admit I have not been a fan of this horse-purely because Im a huge Well Chief lover so as such every year (when can) have always supported Well Chief in his quest for champion chase status.

unfortuently though age has caught up with the old warrior so I put an ante post bet on Master Minded before this race (7/4) and his 2 jumps 3 and 2 out was superb and if in this form cannot see anything that can beat him come March.

I also took a strong interest in Voy Por Ustedes who having also backed for the Ryan Air was hoping that he would run well-but not too well as connections could opt for the champion chase route and I was satisfied with the run-jumped well early on before getting outpaced and staying back on up the run in and that should bring him on perfectly for Cheltenham.

Boomakers reacted by pushing VPU out to 12/1 for the Ryan Air which is fooly in my opinion as 3/4 in the top 8 of the betting won't even run in the race and Voy Por will not only appreciate the distance but loves the course and is pretty much a place banker at least if reaching and completing the race.

Binocular Misses Champion Hurdle 17/2/2010

Nicky Henderson today annouced that Binocular with miss the Champion Hurdle after tests on the horse showed a muscular problem.

Binocular has been dissapointing this season from the view of expectation but in hindsight has put up two creditable efforts at Kempton and his win at Sandown recently so if he can do this when not 100% then there is much to look forward to when he returns next season.

I would imagine and this is just my opinion that McCoy will now ride Punjabi in the Champion Hurdle.

Razor Royale Wins 2010 Racing Post Chase 27/2/2010

Razor Royale survived a blunder at the last to deny Nacarat back-to-back victories in a thrilling climax to the Racing Post Chase at Kempton on Saturday.

Always travelling well Razor Royale took it up 2 out and seemed to have the race in the bag, only to make a horrific mistake at the last to give AP McCoy and Nacarat one last chance to steal victory and that pair went down by the shortest of margins in that attempt for back to back victories for the gutsy Nacarat.
