2009 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes

Its the 58th running of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes this Saturday offering a massive £567,700 to the winner and a overall purse of £1 million.

As such this years renewal is ultra competitive as always with a total of 5 G1 wins between them including a breeders cup turf. Oaks and Irish derby winner.

This years race however does lack a strong 3 year old contender though in fairness last years race had not one from the classic generation.

I already know my idea of the winner as I backed him a few weeks ago but I have done an impartial analysis of all runners below.

ANALYSIS OF DECLARED RUNNERS

 Northern Dancer (CAN)
 Sadler's Wells (USA)
  Fairy Bridge (USA)
 Ask b h 2003
  Rainbow Quest (USA)
 Request
 Highbrow

Race Record(Wins)

3 x Group 3's

1 x Group 2

Coronation Cup 2009 Group 1

Total Prize Money (to date)

£558,970

My Conclusion

Gutsy 6 year old who recorded long overdue first Group 1 at Epsom in June, however this race is much stronger and looks stables third string on Jockey bookings but has places claims and will be battling right to the line.

Current Best Odds 12/1

Ask runs in the colours of Patrick J Fahey

     Darshaan 1981
 Dalakhani (IRE)
  Daltawa (IRE) 1989
Conduit (IRE) ch c 2005
  Sadler's Wells (USA)
 Well Head (IRE)
 River Dancer

Race Record(Wins)

1 x Group 3

St Ledger 2008 Group 1

Breeders Cup Turf 2008 Group 1

Total Prize Money (to date)

£1,345,831

My Conclusion

Last years St Ledger and Breeders Cup Turf winner, who will relish return to this trip after chasing home to youngsters in the Eclipse last time out, Stable jockey Ryan Moore has opted for this brilliant colt and has to take the beating here.

Current Best Odds 7/4

Conduit runs in the colours of the Ballymacoll Stud

     Sadler's Wells (USA)
 Montjeu (IRE)
  Floripedes (FR)
Frozen Fire (GER) b c 2005
  Woodman (USA)
 Flamingo Sea (USA)
 Fabula Dancer (USA)

Race Record(Wins)

Irish Derby 2009 Group 1

Total Prize Money (to date)

£674,678

My Conclusion

Last years Irish Derby winner but totally gone off the boil since, well beaten in all last 3 outings including 2 this term and hard to see reversal of 2008 St ledger form with Conduit.

Current Best Odds 14/1

Frozen Fire runs in the colours of M Tabor, D Smith & Mrs John Magnier

     Rahy (USA)
 Fantastic Light (USA)
  Jood (USA)
Scintillo ch c 2005
  Thatching
 Danseuse Du Soir (IRE)
 Dance By Night

Race Record(Wins)

1 x Group 3

1 x Group 2

Gran Criterium 2007 Group 1

Total Prize Money (to date)

£303,681

My Conclusion

In fine form earlier this season winning the Winter Derby and listed race at kempton but this is a huge step up and with no disrespect to the horse as I like him as an individual the only horse(s) in this line up he'll be beating is the pacemaker, Alwaary and maybe Frozen Fire.

Current Best Odds 50/1

Scintillo runs in the colours of White Beech Farm

     Rainbow Quest (USA)
 Spectrum (IRE)
  River Dancer
Tartan Bearer (IRE) ch c 2005
  Generous (IRE)
 Highland Gift (IRE)
 Scots Lass

Race Record(Wins)

1 x Group 3

1 x Group 2

Total Prize Money (to date)

£628,587

My Conclusion

Last years Dante winner and Derby runner up, who has returned ever better this year with a gutsy re-appearance victory followed by a cracking second in Prince Of Wales(Royal Ascot), is stables and owners second representative in this race along with Conduit but but no means a back number, is held on last years Irish Derby form  with Frozen Fire but looks set to re-establish(beat frozen fire in dante) supremecy with that horse on Saturday but im just not totally convinced that he see's this trip out as well as Conduit so as such has been passed over.

Current Best Odds 4/1

Tartan Bearer runs in the colours of the Ballymacoll Stud

 Niniski (USA)
 Hernando (FR)
  Whakilyric (USA)
Look Here b f 2005
  Rainbow Quest (USA)
 Last Look
 Derniere Danse

Race Record(Wins)

Oaks 2008 Group 1

Total Prize Money (to date)

£321,991

My Conclusion

Last years Oaks heroine who in honesty I did not rate till this season but her runs in both the Coronation and in Ireland were both eye catching, probably can reverse Epsom form with Ask considering that was her first run for nearly a year that day but is still held on St ledger form with Conduit and as such cannot see her beating him but can't see her being out of first 3 so at 7/1 is a cracking each way bet.

Current Best Odds 7/1

Look Here runs in the colours of J H Richmond-Watson

     Roberto (USA) 1969
 Dynaformer (USA) 1985
  Andover Way (USA)
Alwaary (USA) b c 2006
  Unfuwain (USA) 1985
 Tabrir (IRE)

Race Record(Wins)

1 x Listed Victory

Total Prize Money (to date)

£53,535

My Conclusion

Ran a good race at Newmarket last time out when finishing 2nd to Conduits stablemate Doctor Freemantle but Conduit is much better than him and just cannot see how this colt can trade at odds of 16/1 when Scintillo a dual group winner is 50's, the only thing is his favour in my opinion is the weight for age allowance but even allowing that I dont think he will be troubling the principals here.

Current Best Odds 16/1

Alwaary runs in the colours of Hamdan Al Maktoum

     Sadler's Wells (USA)
 High Chaparral (IRE)
  Kasora (IRE)
Golden Sword b c 2006
  Salse (USA)
 Sitara
 Souk (IRE)

Race Record(Wins)

1 x Group 3

Total Prize Money (to date)

£369,251

My Conclusion

This years Derby 5th and Irish Derby Runner up and further more Ballydoyles number 1 representative here, also gets 3 year olds allowance which will help and is more than entitled to take his place in this line up and if granted a soft lead is a threat to all-just concerned about tactics with pacemaker in field as this horse does like to dominate.

Current Best Odds 5/1

Golden Sword runs in the colours of M.Tabor

     Sadler's Wells (USA)
 Galileo (IRE)
  Urban Sea (USA)
Rockhampton (IRE) b c 2006
  Green Dancer (USA)
 Green Rosy (USA)
 Round The Rosie (USA)

Race Record(Wins)

1 X Listed Race

Total Prize Money (to date)

£68,453

My Conclusion

Talented horse in own right but used as pacemaker these days and 200/1 is far to short.

Current Best Odds 200/1

Rockhampton runs in the colours of Mrs John Magnier, M Tabor & D Smith

Final Conclusion

I just cannot see past conduit in this race, has the beating of Frozen Fire And Look Here on last year's form and with Ryan picking him over both Stoute runners looks the one to be on.

Predicted finishing order

1, Coduit

2, Look Here

3, Tartan Bearer

4, Ask

5, Golden Sword

6, Scintillo

7, Frozen Fire

8, Alwaary

9, Rockhampton
