2009 Yorkshire Oaks

A small but select field go to post, with a dual oaks winner taking on her elders for the first time, it makes out to be a fascinating contest.

ANALYSIS OF DECLARED RUNNERS

     Sadler's Wells (USA)
 Barathea (IRE)
  Brocade
Barshiba (IRE) ch m 2004
  Dashing Blade
 Dashiba
 Alsiba

Race Record(Wins)

1 x Group 2

Total Prize Money (to date)

£226,780

My Conclusion

I really like this Mare and despite the small field do think the 14/1 on offer is an insult! Connections have found the key to this once quirky individual and thats letting her dictate in front and in fairness she has done nothing wrong recently and will take a "good un" to get past her tommorow.

Barshiba runs in the colours of Jeff Smith

 In The Wings
 Singspiel
  Glorious Song
Dar Re Mi b f 2005
  Top Ville

Race Record(Wins)

1 x Listed

1 x Group 3

2009 Pretty Polly Stakes Group 1

Total Prize Money (to date)

£318,543

My Conclusion

Nice Gutsy filly, I remember backing her maiden win at Sandown last year when she quickened clear impressivly, I also backed her last time out in Ireland so going to be a struggle to desert her and its very hard to find faults, but first run of the season she was out gunned by Crystal Capella and as such tactics could prove vital as if she is held up I don't think will suit that well and if she trys to make it Barshiba will have to many guns for her early on and Sariska will pick both them up late.

Dar Re Mi runs in the colours of Lord Lloyd Webber

    Green Desert

  Park Appeal
Saphira´s Fire (IRE) b f 2005
  Gulch
 All Our Hope
 Knoosh

Race Record(Wins)

Total Prize Money (to date)

My Conclusion

Outclassed here, good placing by trainer as could pick up some prize money but should not trouble the top 3.

Saphira's Fire runs in the colours of M J Caddy

     Northern Dancer
 Sadler's Wells
  Fairy Bridge
Roman Empress (IRE) b f 2006
  Slip Anchor

Race Record(Wins)

1 x Maiden Victory

My Conclusion

Well bred filly, but im pretty certain she's here for pacemaking duties which will of course be interesting with a few more fancied front runners in the line up.

Roman Empress runs in the colours of Mrs John Magnier And T V Magnier

     Polar Falcon
 Pivotal
  Fearless Revival
Sariska b f 2006
  Muhtarram

Race Record(Wins)

1 x Group 3

2009 English Oaks Group 1

2009 Irish Oaks Group 1

Total Prize Money (to date)

£516,273

My Conclusion

Firstly its always brings a smile to my face when I research the pedigree of a Pivotal bred horse as ive worked hands on with his mother Fearless Revival, Sentiment aside what can you say about this filly's performance in Ireland it was breathtaking to watch and as such makes Sariska the firm favourite to win this! Her odds reflect this and there is no value but in all honesty she is the likely winner and I would love to see her do an Islington and go on to run in the Arc and Breeders Cup.

Sariska runs in the colours of Lady Bamford

 Northern Dancer
 Sadler's Wells
  Fairy Bridge
Tamarind (IRE) b f 2006
  Darshaan
 Sharata
 Shademah

Race Record(Wins)

1 x Group 3

Total Prize Money (to date)

£64,515

My Conclusion

Progressive filly and beat much more fancied stablemate last time out, Stamina looks her fortue and I fully expect Roman Empress to try make is a test fo Tamarind. Still looks up against it though as Sariska on breeding will stay all day.

Tamarind runs in the colours of Mrs John Magnier and Mrs David Nagle

Final Conclusion

Im torn between Barshiba and Sariska but in reality given the odds its easy, Barshiba each way at 14's and Sariska Win.

As stated before do think tactics regarding who leads will play an important part in this race, As if Dar Re Mi got an uncontested lead could change the whole aspect of the race, as could the ballydoyle pacemaker upsetting either Dar Re Mi or Barshiba, anyhow with the weight for age concession Sariska should take this with Barshiba taking the runners up spot.

Predicted finishing order

1, Sariska

2, Barshiba

3, Dar Re Mi

4, Tamarind

5, Saphira's Fire

6, Roman Empress
